You will remember that Steven won Gold for Australia in the 1000m speed skating in Salt Lake City at the Winter Olympics in 2002. He was indeed the last man standing and 1st across the finish line when all competitors in front of him fell over. You may think him lucky and yes, he was! BUT he put himself in a position to win. This was his 4th Winter Olympics, he had endured horrific accidents over the years and yet he endured. He was so deserving of this medal. All the hard work, years of travelling the world, time away from loved ones, the obsessive training had finally paid off.
